AC Milan in 2000/02

Milan finished sixth in Serie A in 2000–01 with 49 points, saved from worse by Ukrainian striker Andriy Shevchenko's 24 league goals and 34 in all competitions. They topped their Champions League group with victories including a 0–2 win at the Camp Nou against Barcelona, but were eliminated in the second group stage after drawing with Spanish champions Deportivo La Coruña when needing a win. Alberto Zaccheroni was sacked on 14 March 2001, replaced by caretaker Cesare Maldini, whose tenure included a 0–6 victory over Inter.
