Birmingham City in 1996

The 1996-97 season marked Trevor Francis's first campaign as manager following his appointment in May 1996 after Barry Fry's dismissal. Birmingham City finished tenth in the 24-team Division One, the second tier of the English football league system. Francis brought in players with top-level experience including Manchester United captain Steve Bruce. The club reached the fifth round of the FA Cup before losing to Wrexham, and exited the League Cup in the second round against Coventry City.
