Canada’s World Cup debut — Mexico 86, a group containing France, Hungary and the Soviet Union, three narrow defeats and no goals scored. It stood as the country’s only men’s World Cup appearance for 36 years, until Qatar 2022.

Canada debuted at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico and did not return until Qatar 2022, where Alphonso Davies scored the country’s first men’s World Cup goal against Croatia. In between came a Gold Cup title in 2000, and next comes the biggest stage of all — Canada co-host the 2026 World Cup with the United States and Mexico.
